Intervention Model

Since children over 6 receive only $6,000/year in autism funding, the intervention model for children ages 6+ is quite different from the under 6 model. There are a few options for service provision, which can be flexible based on your child's/family's needs:
  1. School Consultation only. In-school consultation/support for your child's academic programs and positive behaviour support plan.
  2. Direct Intervention. Once-per-week 1:1 sessions to teach skills pertinent to you child's positive behaviour support plan + school consultation as funding allows.
  3. BI supervision. Weekly 1:1 sessions with a Behaviour Interventionist (BI)--I provide student-specific programming for the BI to implement under my supervision. School consultation as funding allows.
Additional hours of behaviour consultation support or BI hours can be arranged through a Private Pay Agreement, if desired.

Hiring a BI

A BI is like a tutor who implements the programs designed by the behaviour consultant. I am happy to help parents find and interview potential Behaviour Interventionists (BIs), if they choose to have one on the team.

BIs need to be 19+, and enjoy being with/working with kids. If they don't have experience working with children with autism, that's ok! I will provide training and supervision to ensure program implementation fidelity. The most important characteristics for a BI are that they: have rapport with your child and your family, are keen to learn, and are willing to take corrective/constructive feedback.

Additional Funding Options

If your child needs additional supports such as Speech/Language, Occupational Therapy, and/or Physiotherapy, you may be eligible to cover some services through your extended medical plan. You may also be eligible to apply for additional funding for these services through the Variety Club.
